With our publishing package we publish your ebook in many places to give you more chances to sell your book. Let’s say your goal is to sell 100 books a month. Instead of putting all your books in one basket and trying to sell 100 books a month on Amazon’s Kindle store, steroids if you have 10 different distributors, information pills you only have to sell 10 ebooks in each place.

We currently upload your book directly to Amazon, visit web Barnes & Noble, and Smashwords. Through Smashwords, your book is then distributed to Apple, Borders, Diesel, Kobo, ScrollMotion, and Sony. This appears as if your book is on 9 different places, but that’s not the whole picture. Amazon has three distinct Kindle stores in the US, the UK, and in Germany. Barnes & Noble is currently limited to the US. Apple has their iBookstore available in the US, Canada, UK, France, Germany, China, Australia, and New Zealand. Kobo has stores for the US, Canada, UK, Mexico, European Union, Australia, New Zealand, Hong Kong, and several others (we’ll count those as one). ScrollMotion turns your book into an iPhone/iPad app. Now our count for available distributors is up to 25. That means you only have to sell 4 books a month in each store to make your 100 a month quota.

We could add Google Ebooks to this list, but a month ago we discovered a client’s book was available to download in its entirety, despite correctly setting it up to allow only a sample. Google claimed we were wrong, but we had other people test it for us and yes, they were able to download the entire book. I cancelled my account with Google Ebooks and will wait until they have this serious bug fixed.

When you purchase our publishing package, we need the following information to complete the work:

login information for each of the three main distributors: Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and Smashwords
short description (under 400 characters, spaces count)
long description (under 4,000 characters, spaced count)
short author bio
at least 5 keywords or phrases
genres you’d like your book listed under
price for your book

Each of the main distributors require that you confirm your account via email. Simply set up your account, confirm the email, and record your login name and password. You might also want to start the publishing process by entering the name of your book, if only to choose the genres since those vary by distributor. You can also wait until we start the book for you.

When you write your descriptions, think like a copywriter. You want to grab the attention of the potential reader, instill interest and then desire, and then finally a call to action.

Your author bio should make you look human, friendly, approachable, et cetera. Be sure to include your website, Twitter handle, and email address.

Your keywords or phrases are for search purposes. Be sure to include words or phrases that people might use to search for your book and especially words or phrases that are not included in your title or description.

The genres available for listing your book are different for each of the main distributors. Amazon and Smashwords allow two different genres and Barnes & Noble allows up to five. To choose the genres, log in to each account and look at the available list. We’ll help you find this information for your book.

Last, be sure to have a price you want to start your book at. It’s easy to change the price, so don’t worry that you’re locking yourself in. For novels, a good starting price is between $2.99 and $4.99. The lower the price, the more books you’ll sell. The price needs to end in .99

I’ll talk more about this in a future article, but for now I want to at least mention it. It’s important to have reviews for your book as this is a form of social proof and having them helps you sell more books. For each distributor, you should find and use the direct link for leaving a review for your book. Include those links in the back of your book to make it that much easier for people to leave a review. Also, don’t just tell people to leave a review, connect with them emotionally and let them know why it’s important to you.

1. Why should I pay to have my book converted when Amazon allows you to upload PDFs, pilule Word docs, case and even plain text?
The proof is in the results. If you view an ebook that was uploaded as a PDF (or any file that is not in the Kindle format—mobi or prc), you’ll see a mess. Even Amazon warns against this. Their exact wording is, “We’ve had publishers report numerous formatting and conversion issues when uploading PDF files, such as irregularly bolded text, irregular page breaks, inconsistent font sizes, inconsistent text flow, and missing or oversized images. For this reason, we recommend converting your PDF to DOC format and following our Simplified Guide to Building a Kindle Book.”

Their guide recommends the same process I use at The Ebook Editor: convert a correctly-styled Word doc to an HTML file that is then optimized for the Kindle format, and then use Mobipocket Creator to create the Kindle ebook file.

2. Do you personally test on actual ereader devices?
Kindle for PC and Kindle for Mac do not accurately display what your Kindle ebook will look like. For EPUBs, Adobe Digital Editions will read the file, but it does a horrible job of displaying the EPUB accurately. Nothing can compare to viewing your ebook on an actual ereader. I check your Kindle books on an actual Kindle and EPUBs are viewed on an iPad and a Nook. Many times I’ve found errors that only showed up on the actual ereader devices and then I was able to correct them for my clients.

3. Do you provide additional services that help me distribute my ebook?
Most ebook conversion companies only provide ebook conversions. You’re left to figure out on your own how to actually upload your book to all the various sites. Our inexpensive publishing package (only $49) distributes your book to over 25 stores and you can find out all the details by reading this article.

With my expert ebook conversion tools and services, you can be sure you’re receiving the best possible ebook, one that is painstakingly and respectfully hand-crafted to look it’s absolute best. Find out more by going to The Ebook Editor.
